Giving weight to yesterday's reports from Veitch and Ausiello, Jericho creator and executive producer Carol Barbee says CBS is negotiating to bring the show back at mid-season for eight episodes. From The L.A. Times:
Sometimes going a little nutty is a good thing.
For weeks, "Jericho" junkies have been firing e-mails (effectively shutting down InBoxes at CBS and this newspaper), signing petitions and sending bags of nuts to CBS headquarters in protest.
The assault seems to have worked, "Jericho" creator and executive producer Carol Barbee said Tuesday. CBS executives are in discussions with the show's producers and actors to resuscitate the show -- killed just last month -- for an eight-episode run in mid-season.
"The idea would not be to bring it for eight and out, but to bring it back for eight with the hope that it would keep going," Barbee said. "They're making deals with the actors and there's other logistical stuff to work out too. 'Swingtown' [a new drama] was supposed to take over the same stages so it's a lot about the logistics of how to work out a schedule that works for all of us."

Jericho Pick-Up?
How's this for the biggest stunner you've heard all day: Sources close to CBS tell me it is extremely likely the Armageddonish drama Jericho--which did not make the CBS '07-'08 schedule a few weeks ago, meaning it was effectilvely canceled—has been revived from the dead and will return for eight episodes for midseason.
Read the full report from E Online's Kristin Veitch and Jennifer Godwin. The rumor hadn't yet hit Jericho Lives, the last time I checked. It smells like closure in the form of a mini-series to me (an aroma which is easily mistaken for that of roasted nuts).
So? Where have we been? That's highly classified. Or not. It could be that life swallowed us whole this year, and we never found the time we'd intended to dedicate to this blog. But summer's here and the time is right for dancing in the streets, and for getting our resolve on. We plan to spend the summer lazing about in the sun getting our acts together, to relaunch this blog (and our sister site at MySpace) with all new content, come the fall TV season.
In the meantime, we are mourning the loss of our beloved Veronica Mars. Inside sources indicate it is not exactly as dead as it looks. Stu Segall (the San Diego production home of VM) took down its thank you note and announcement of the end of the series, and told its local extras to remain on call for the next little while. That said, we've seen the final ratings and we think we have to kiss our Veronica (and Logan, don't forget that yummy Logan) goodbye. We'll keep our fingers crossed, just in case.
We've also had to bid a fond farewell to Jericho. We didn't expect to like it half as well as we did. It really picked up after its ridiculously long hiatus. CBS is now learning what happens when they drive an audience nuts with a cliffhanger-to-cancelation segue. Personally, since the CW is a joint venture between CBS and Warner Bros., we think they ought to ship Jericho over to the CW. If even if half its viewers went AWOL, it would still be one of the CW's biggest hits.
